69, of Springfield, formerly of Raybun County, Ga., died Monday at St. John's Hospital.

He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Petersburg, the son of Samuel Frederick and Mary Dyer Hughes. He married Dorothy M. Koke in 1950 in Springfield.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired from Sangamo Electric where he worked for more than 40 years. He was a member of Sangamo Retirees Club, American Baptist Men, American Bowling Congress and a lifelong member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Norman of Springfield, Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Green of Chatham and Mrs. David (Brenda) Marsengill of Clayton, Ga.; a son, Charles Robert Hughes of Springfield; six grandchildren; a twin brother, Lloyd Hughes of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, Dr. Gary Rhodes officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
