Martha Ruark

(March 17, 1845 - January 20, 1913)

    Martha Ruark was born in Marcellus, Garrand County, Kentucky to William Harvey Ruark and Melinda Detro.  She grew up in Lewis and Mason Counties, also in Kentucky.  For whatever reason, in 1867 she moved to Fulton County, Illinois.  A couple years earlier, her future husband Andrew M. Carter had moved from Adams or Scioto County, Ohio to Fulton County, Illinois.  She married Andrew on December 1, 1868 in Lewistown, Fulton County, Illinois.  Together they had the following children...

1.    Andrew Jackson Carter (May 23, 1871 - April 21, 1948)

2.    Fannie Estella Carter (February 14, 1874 - May 3, 1941)

3.    Alexander Albert Carter (1875 - 1883)

4.    William Harvey Carter (December 13, 1877- December 24, 1948)

5.    James Thomas Carter (March 7, 1880 - September 18, 1935)

6.    Frank Henry Carter (August 13, 1882- )

7.    Gertie G. Carter (July 7, 1885 - January, 1973)
