This is an on-line discussion forum called Carter Family Stories.  We have all heard some variation of the story that our surname used to be McCartney or McCarter.  I never got to know Grandpa Andy or James.  Many of the descendants of Andrew M. Carter and Martha Ruark didn't get to know the descendants of Andrew's first wife, Sienda.  This is the place to add your stories.
